"Gifted Pupil" means a child who is of lawful school age, who due to superior intellect or advanced learning ability, or both, is in need of additional learning opportunities in the regular classroom to achieve at levels commensurate with the child's intellect and ability.

"Gifted Education" means appropriate academic course offerings and services that are required to provide an educational program that is an integral part of the regular school day and that is commensurate with the academic abilities and potential of a gifted pupil.  “Gifted Pupils” are those that test in at least the 97th percentile on either the CogAT or RAVEN tests.

To address the concepts of “giftedness” amongst our student population our district focuses on small class sizes, differentiation of coursework, and program offerings that allow students to develop their personal gifts (i.e. clubs, accelerated programs, Pre-Ap/AP program, college and career readiness classes, after school tutorial, etc.) In addition to the above, HUSD implements an Individual Gifted Plan for every identified gifted pupil. These plans are implemented each year and reviewed quarterly with parents and students.
