HUSD #3 Loves Our Indian Education Program!

Heart + Culture + Community = Our purpose.

The HUSD #3 Indian Education Program is proud to share a snapshot of the meaningful work happening in our department! Take a look at what we've been up to:

⭐ A-Mazing Highlight: National Recognition!
We are celebrating our incredible staff! Both of our dedicated Navajo Language teachers have been recognized nationally, each earning the title of a National Johnson O’Malley Educator of the Year! 🏆 This outstanding achievement highlights the commitment and excellence driving our language preservation efforts.

📈 Success in Community Engagement
We've been strategically focused on building stronger, more authentic connections with the communities we serve. Thanks to successful family/community events, like a reading night at Park and our highly attended Native Education Summit, we've seen a significant increase in engagement! We're excited to continue this momentum with more events planned for November—check out the calendar of events: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GbtWeCFYaIUKfgetcf6qdejQxu4ze4tY/view?usp=sharing

❤️ Why We Love Our Department
Being a part of Indian Education is deeply meaningful because it gives us the opportunity to serve our Native students, families, and communities in ways that truly honor who we are and where we come from.

Every day, we help preserve our languages, celebrate our rich cultures, and empower our youth to see their identity as a source of strength and pride. Our work is about ensuring every student feels a sense of belonging and representation, knowing they are valued and capable of achieving their dreams while staying grounded in their traditions. We are connecting the past, present, and future of our people through education that truly reflects us.

Want to learn more about our upcoming events and programs? Contact: Indian Education Director Bernice Gover at bgover@holbrook.k12.az.us!

Walk With Me to Be Drug-Free!

Indian Wells Elementary kicked off Red Ribbon Week with our annual Walk With Me to Be Drug-Free event!
Students, staff, and community members joined together in a powerful display of unity, walking proudly around campus to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles.

This event reminds us that when we walk together, we grow stronger, one positive step at a time. ❤️💙

A special thank-you to Alberto Peshlakai, Dilkon Police Department, Dilkon EMS, and the Nexus Coalition for supporting our Roadrunners and helping make this event a safe, inspiring success.

Together, we are showing our students that being drug-free looks good on me!

Dear Roadrunner Families,

Today, our staff participated in our School Safety and Crisis Response meeting as part of our continued commitment to keeping every student safe. While we hope we never face an emergency, families need to know that Indian Wells Elementary has clear procedures in place to respond quickly and calmly in the event of a crisis.

In the event of a crisis or evacuation, our priorities are:

Student and staff safety first.
All students will be supervised and accounted for at designated evacuation sites.

Communication.
Families will receive updates through our district’s notification system (Thrillshare, text, email, and phone) as soon as accurate information becomes available.

Controlled reunification.
If students need to be picked up, parents and guardians will be directed to a safe reunification site.
➤ Parents will be required to show identification before a student is released. Please ensure you have your photo ID with you and are prepared to present it to prove who you are. This step is critical to keeping all students safe and ensuring each child is released to the correct guardian.

Coordination with emergency services.
We work directly with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency management teams to ensure student safety during any situation.

Please take a moment to ensure your contact information in Infinite Campus is up to date so we can reach you in an emergency.

Our goal is always to create a learning environment that is both safe and prepared. Thank you for trusting us with your children every day and for supporting our ongoing safety efforts.

Sincerely,
Dr. Andrea Tomlin
