We are beyond excited to announce that our very own Ms. Manning has been selected as a recipient of the 2025-26 Palo Verde Fiesta Sports Foundation "Wishes for Teachers" grant! 🏆

Because of this incredible $2,500 grant, our classroom is getting a major upgrade. Ms. Manning has already put these funds to work by purchasing:

17 Brand New General Microscopes 🔬 (Get ready to see the world up close, students!)

A massive supply of Tape & Highlighters 🖍️ (The essentials for staying organized and creative!)

A huge thank you to the Palo Verde Fiesta Sports Foundation for investing in our teachers and fueling the curiosity of our students. We can't wait to see these new tools in action! 💡🙌

Our 7th and 8th grade AVID students recently took an exciting trip to Phoenix filled with hands on learning and future focused experiences.

The day began at the Wildlife World Zoo, where students participated in a structured, standards based academic field experience. Working in teams, they completed a WICOR based scavenger challenge that pushed them to think critically, collaborate, and engage deeply with their surroundings. Students practiced levels of inquiry, collected structured notes, read informational texts, and wrapped up the experience by creating a one page project that demonstrated their depth of learning.

The second part of the day included a campus tour of Grand Canyon University. AVID students, who are already focused on college readiness, truly benefited from seeing what their future could look like and envisioning themselves on a college campus.

A big thank you to our parents for getting students to school so early so they could take part in this opportunity. Thank you Ms. Jimenez for making all the arrangements.

Mary Lara from Northern Arizona University brought an unforgettable day of discovery to Ms. Manning’s 8th grade science class. Students had the incredible opportunity to explore science up close with three high powered microscopes, diving into the ultraviolet spectrum and experiencing real time views of the sun through specialized telescopes. It was a hands on, awe inspiring experience that truly brought science to life.

As part of February being Kindness Month, our weekly Teens Make Health Happen group is showing what leadership and heart truly look like. These amazing young people have decorated large donation sacks and placed them around our campus to collect non-perishable food items for our community.

This is the last week of the Food Drive, and we could not be more proud of their initiative and generosity. The donations will be distributed to a selected organization right here in our community, directly helping families in need.

They are stepping up, giving back, and making a real difference where they live. Let’s help them finish strong by sending in a non-perishable item this week.

Parents,

Please take a moment to review our upcoming Performance Matters benchmark testing dates and plan appointments around these days so your child can successfully complete their assessments. It is very important that students are at school on time and remain for the entire day, as testing will take place during regular school hours. We are beyond proud to announce that the film "Cleaning’s a Cakewalk," starring our very own HJHS 7th grader Kellyn Morris, is making its New York City premiere at the New York International Children’s Film Festival!
This incredible Navajo-language short is being featured in the festival's "Centerpiece: Native Stories" program. You might remember when Kellyn visited Holbrook last year to screen the film for our elementary and junior high students. He even did an impromptu Q&A, inspiring our students with their behind-the-scenes stories!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Since Valentine’s Day is on Saturday, February 14th this year, we encourage families to celebrate with personal gifts at home on that day.

Friday, February 13th is a half day of school. Because of the shortened schedule, we will not be able to accept or deliver personal Valentine’s items for students. This includes balloons, flowers, stuffed animals, gift arrangements, or similar items. For safety and transportation reasons, these types of items are also not allowed on school buses.

We appreciate your understanding and your partnership in helping us maintain a safe and focused learning environment for all students.

Valentine's Day
At our First Annual Science Fair, judges used a detailed scoring guide to evaluate each project. They looked for clear and creative presentations that were organized and easy to understand. Students were expected to have a strong testable question that showed cause and effect, thorough background research, and a hypothesis based on that research. Judges also reviewed whether variables were clearly identified, materials and procedures were detailed and repeated at least three times, and whether both quantitative and qualitative data were collected. Projects were evaluated on data analysis, conclusions based on evidence, and a well written abstract that summarized the entire investigation.

We are proud of all of our students who participated. Christopher Gonzales created a Solar System model. Robert Hayden, Peyton Young, Triistan Mann, and Kelley Begaye investigated the effect of different lights on goldfish. Myles Moore tested the strength of different paper towel brands.
