HJHS Student Council Election Day!
~After two weeks of campaigning, HJHS students running for student council delivered their speeches to their fellow peers. The speeches were full of promises, Next Level ideas, and how they will serve the HJHS community.
~In their speeches they reminded their peers to be Respectful, Responsible, Reliably Safe...to be Kind...to make good choices and to Give No Less Than Their Best!

~We ended the assembly in true HJHS fashion with their class chants....today definately goes to the Class of 2028!
~Student voting is now underway....winners to be announced soon!
HJHS Softball!
Due to flooded fields in Winslow, today's HJHS Softball games have been cancelled. They will be rescheduled for another time.
Softball players WILL have practice today, Thursday, August 17th.
HJHS! Did you know today is "World Greatness Day"?
World Greatness Day is celebrated yearly on August 15. Professor Patrick Businge established this festival to honor all things great in life. This day draws our attention to the individuals who have had a significant impact on our lives.
At HJHS we believe all of our students have greatness in them and we are excited to help cultivate that greatness throughout the 2023-2024 SY.
August 14 is a day to remember the once top-secret group, the Navajo Code Talkers. Navajo Code Talkers Day was established by a proclamation made by President Ronald Reagan in 1982. Navajo Code Talkers Day is a day that holds great importance in the history of the U.S. This is the day to recognize and celebrate the contributions of the Navajo marines during World War II. Navajo marines encoded and transmitted messages using complex Navajo language-based code during a time when secret communication was essential to win a war. The code was never broken by Japanese forces in the Pacific and proved to be of great assistance to the U.S. Marines. The Navajo Code Talkers successfully transmitted more than 800 messages without error and helped the U.S win the war.
On this day, August 14th we honor the great American heroes and their service to the nation.
Did you know that the HJHS handbook is combined in the same spiral as the student planner? All of our students are given this resource/tool to keep in their AVID binders for reference and use.
~The handbook acknowledgement page can be found in the front of the planner and needs to be signed by a parent and student and then turned in.
~The grade level to reach 100% turned in first will earn a special treat! Right now it's 7th grade in the lead with 56% turned in followed by 6th grade at 49% and then 8th grade at 46%.
~Which grade level will it be to reach 100% first? 🌟🌟🌟
~Let's get those pages turned in ASAP!

~Studets must have a completed athletic packet turned in and a physical on file in order to participate. **A Refillable Water Bottle is Highly Recommended**
Another Great day at HJHS! A couple of reminders/updates:
**Fridays are Early Release Days-12:05pm** ~Friday is still an important day of school at HJHS...attendance is counted and does matter. Additionally, students will be earning grades on Fridays in their PASS Class based on their binder checks, grade checks, intervention/enrichment work, and other standards based learning.~
~This first Friday-August 4th students will be receiving their AVID binders, handbook/planners and other important information and supplies.~
~Fall Sports Start Monday, August 7th. Physicals and sports packets must be completed before students can participate. Please contact our Athletic Director, Mr. Orton if you have questions at dorton@holbrook.k12.az.us or 928-524-3959~

~~We had a great turn out at our Back to School Open House. We are looking forward to seeing all of our students on campus bright and early tomorrow morning.
~~Schedules will be picked up at the appropriate grade level table set up in the quad in the morning. We will also pass out the student supply pouches at that time. **Final reminder--students must have completed registration on file to attend their classes.
~~Don't forget your water bottle...It's still hot out there.

Welcome Back, HJHS!! ~School starts tomorrow-Aug. 2nd @ 7:55am and releases at 3:35pm.~ ~We are ready and we cannot wait to welcome our students to the 2023-2024 SY. ~ ~Students will be given a copy of their class schedule upon arrival tomorrow morning. Tables will be set up in the quad by grade level and last name to pick up schedules.~ ~We will use the first couple days of school to get to know students, build positive connections, and help them get settled in and feel good about the new year.~ ~Important: If you did not register your child you will need to do so before they can report to classes. You can contact the office at 928-524-3959 if you have questions or need help.~ ~Reminder: HJHS open-house/meet the teachers is today from 2:30pm-4:00pm. We will not be handing out schedules today (Tues. Aug. 1st) however they are visible through the Infinite Campus parent and/or student portal.~
School is about to start and it's still HOT outside which means proper hydration is even more important! 💦
HJHS will be scheduling intentional "Hydration Breaks" to ensure our students and staff are drinking enough water! 💦

I've been watching this great group of boys playing basketball from my office window all summer long and without fail they were out there at 8:30 this morning...smiling, playing, getting along and genuinely enjoying being kids.
Can't wait to see the rest of our students on campus again....It's going to be a great year!
